PE and Sports Premium

Following the 2012 Olympics, it was decided to provide extra funding for PE and sports in primary schools. The additional money schools receive is called the 'PE and Sports Premium' and is based on the number of children in years 1 to 6 in the school.

The premium must be spent by schools on making additional and sustainable improvements to the provision of PE and sport for the benefit of all pupils to encourage the development of healthy, active lifestyles.

Our current PE and Sports Premium Spending has been allocated to support the following areas:

  • Hire specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work with primary teachers during PE lessons
  • Hire specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to engage pupils in high energy and high skills sports activities (especially where the activity is specialised such as Dance or Aerobic exercise classes)
  • Support and involve children in sports by running after-school and lunchtime sports clubs
  • Develop teachers' levels of skill and confidence through providing resources and training courses in PE and sport for teachers
  • Run sport competitions or increase pupils’ participation in inter-school games
  • Run sports activities with other schools
  • Develop outdoor areas to encourage and promote active breaks and lunches
  • Provide resources to enhance PE lessons and active outdoor times
